From savoring quiet powder days in a peaceful Breckenridge to embracing the vibrant après culture, the Panda found joy in every corner of Summit County.

THE INTERVIEW

Exploring Mountain Life Off the Slopes with The Summit Scoop Panda

In this conversation, we caught up with The Summit Scoop Panda to dive into the unique experience of living and thriving in Summit County without skiing. They shared their favorite non-ski adventures, the joys of après culture, and the ways they’ve built a fulfilling mountain lifestyle off the beaten path.

We asked about the charm of quiet powder days, how to build community without hitting the slopes, and what it means to truly embrace mountain living in your own way. Here’s what they had to say.

Let’s start with the basics. What brought you to Summit County, and how did you end up here without skiing?

“It all started with a serendipitous Instagram ad during the pandemic. Back in 2021, during the height of COVID, I stumbled upon an ad for Breckenridge Resort that was hiring mountain workers. On a whim, I applied, and within a few weeks, I drove across the country from California, ready to embrace a new chapter, even though skiing wasn’t my forte. It was all about exploring a new way of life.

I was [ready] to embrace a new chapter, even though skiing wasn’t my forte. It was all about exploring a new way of life..

That’s such an amazing journey! How did you find yourself navigating a ski town without hitting the slopes?

“Honestly, it was all about embracing the different aspects of mountain life. I fell in love with the peaceful moments, the vibrant community, and all the non-ski adventures—like hiking, snowshoeing, and, of course, the après culture. It turned out to be a unique way to experience the mountains.”

I found my own unique rhythm.

TODAY’S WORKSPACE

Live from Breckenridge, Colorado

As we settled in for this interview, the Summit Scoop Panda was enjoying the crisp mountain air in a cozy cabin nestled in the heart of Breckenridge. With snow-capped peaks in the background and a warm cup of coffee in hand, the Panda settled by the window, watching the snowfall gently. It’s the perfect blend of work and mountain serenity.

And just like that, it’s another inspiring day in Summit County.

What are some of your favorite non-ski activities in Summit County?

“Oh, there are so many! I love taking leisurely walks through Breckenridge on powder days, enjoying quiet coffee shop moments, and connecting with friends over game nights and themed dinners. Plus, the après scene is always a blast!”

It’s all about finding joy in the little moments.

It sounds like you’ve really embraced the community. How have you found that your unique perspective as a non-skier has been received?

“It’s been overwhelmingly positive! People appreciate that I bring a different perspective. It’s not just about skiing; it’s about the friendships, the shared experiences, and the unique adventures we have together.”

It’s not just about skiing; it’s about the friendships, the shared experiences, and the unique adventures we have together.

That’s so inspiring! What advice would you give to others who might find themselves in a similar situation, living in a ski town but not skiing?

“Embrace the diversity of experiences! Find what you love about the mountains, connect with your community, and don’t be afraid to carve out your own path and connect with the community in your own way. There’s so much more to mountain life than just skiing.

Wonderful advice! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. It’s been a pleasure chatting with you!

“Thank you! It’s been great to share, and I’m always excited to spread the joy of mountain life in my own way!”

When Shadow Decided to Steal the Show

The Summit Scoop Panda in their cozy cabin

About ten minutes into our conversation, just as the Panda was sharing their favorite winter adventures, Shadow, the roommate’s dog, suddenly jumped into the frame, wagging her tail enthusiastically.

The Panda quickly apologized, typing a quick note: “Oops, looks like Shadow’s taking center stage today!”

After a brief pause to give Shadow a quick pat and get back on track, we resumed our chat.
